Loved (past tense) this composter

Wow, wonderful composter was all I could say until the metal parts started rusting. Guess there should have been a warning about this needing to be under cover so the rain could NOT get to it. The handles first became hard to turn and then even with constant spraying with WD40 and other substances they finally would NOT even open. I had to pry the lid up so I could empty it and try to find another brand, looking for NO metal parts. What did I love - 2 compartments allowed me to keep adding while the other side was "cooking"; the height was perfect, no bending with a bad back; it was easy to empty (height was a plus to make that easy); it turned readily (no fighting to mix ingredients); my compost was ready to use as quickly as I filled the other side (we even had some waiting in a large plastic container until the yard needed it) Yes, I really loved this composter, just very disappointed in the metal rods that allowed the top to open and close.

Great idea, but poor design.

I really wanted an easier way to compost my kitchen waste and small amounts of garden trimmings. I have compost piles for most garden and leaf debris. This looks organized and neat on the side of my house just outside the kitchen door and I like having the double bins. However, the design and instructions are crazy! If it was not for my husband’s help, strength and tenacity, the composter would never have gotten assembled. Since setting it up in July it has lost most of it’s little corner pieces and the pin to one of the small (plastic!) rotator handles has broken. We covered the corners with duck tape and replaced broken pin with a nail. I also cover the unit with a tarp when it rains, otherwise material gets too wet. I am 5’7”, weigh 150lbs. and am relatively strong. If I was shorter and not as strong it would be very difficult to get the bins tumbling! Those suckers are heavy! If I had it to do over I would look again at those DIY tumbler instructions and pass on this purchase. Great idea, but the product falls short of expectation.
