Small nut wizard
2019-08-16
Been looking at this product for years. I agree with an earlier buyer - just get it now. While not inexpensive, I no longer fight against rolling down the hill on nuts when mowing. Only complaint was that no instructions came with it but they are easily available on the Gardener's Edge web-site. Construction was easy but I wasn't clear on how to use the Dumpster. Instructions made that very clear.

I bought the small nut wizard to address the huge number of nuts dropped from just 2 large trees...an oak & a hazelnut. It works great for the acorns. If the hazelnuts fall to the ground whole, it also works great. Trouble is, the squirrels tend to crack the hazelnuts up in the tree & drop the shells to the ground. I find that the nut wizard doesn't work as well with the cracked shells. All in all, I still think this is a great tool & am glad I purchased it. Just wish it work as well the the shells so I guess I still have to rake. :(

The best invention ever

I have 7 large oak trees around my house and usually spend August and September picking up or raking up acorns. This does a wonderful job and all I have to do is roll it around the yard. It is so satisfying to watch the wheel fill up with acorns and then empty it into a 5 gallon pail. I have filled three 5 gallon pails so far this year. I have already recommended it to 3 friends. Thanks to Gardener's Edge for offering this product. What a time saver!!!

I have 20+ oak trees, 2 walnuts, and 1 buckeye tree in my yard. We have an overwhelming amount of nuts and acorns. I used this for the first time yesterday, and it is terrific. It will pick up embedded acorns out of clay soil! The smaller basket fills quickly when picking up walnuts, but it still works! This is ingenious and so easy to use.

This little device is fantastic for picking up all the acorns that fall into the landscaped perennial beds on our 16-acre woodland property. What a time and back saver! Now if someone would just invent a device that removed all those annoying little fall season "hitchhiker" seeds from my clothes.

I became one with the Wizard
2012-09-14
I have never seen as many acorns as what dropped this year(2012). The prospects of raking already stressed grass led me to purchase the Nut Wizard. It works very well and the directions from Holt that came with it, leave no questions unanswered. I am trying to keep up with the daily droppings so when I leave the house to the backyard I tell my wife I'm going to become one with the nut wizard. Thanks, Rick

I have 5 mature black walnuts trees in my yard. I use to dread every fall season picking these up off the ground. I saw this cage basket roller in a magazine and thought it'd work and save my back from problems and it sure has. Also purchased smaller one, never regretted it.

An Amazing Tool

The Nut Wizard works precisely as advertised. I have hickory trees and it scarfs up hundreds of nuts with little or no exertion. Passersby stop and watch in amazement as my Nut Wizard gobbles up the nuts in my driveway. It is one of the most useful yard tools I have.

Nut Wizards/ Large and Small
2011-09-30
I have actually purchased both sizes, large one for black walnuts and the small one for acorns. Both sizes work great. Two years ago we picked up over 4,000 black walnuts by hand, what a back breaker. Last year we just walked around the yard rolling the nut wizard over the walnut and in it went. It's easy to empty the basket when is full too. I've shown it to some friends and they too have purchased the larger nut wizard.

We have a large walnut tree that produces bushels of walnuts each year. The nut wizard is saving us time and the back breaking job of raking and picking up the nuts. We love it and it is well worth the money spent.

I got this tool for Mom, who was hand-picking pecans from a tree Dad had planted years before passing. She LOVES it and wondered where it had been all this time. It works great, her friends have commented on what a neat tool it is. Great tool!

I love the nut wizard for picking up apples. It is easy and actually fun to use. The only problems I have is that the nut that fastens the wizard to the handle comes loose often. I have to hold on to that when I am dumping the apples so it won't spin. It picks up all sizes of apples and walnuts. I have already passed along my love for the product to 2 other people who have also purchased them.

I filled a 5-gallon steel bucket with acorns in less than an hour, with greater ease than walking the dog! Acorns just jump into this thing without any effort whatsoever, it is fantastic!

I used the Nut Wizard to pick up shag bark hickory nuts, for the first time last season. It worked very well, I just wish that I had received it a little earlier in the season before the nuts came out of their shells. It is much easier to pick up the nuts when they are still inside the shells rather than gather the nuts and shell pieces (but the Wizard successfully does that, too)! It is pricey, but well constructed, and worth every penny if you have a lot of nuts/shells to gather.

Almost too easy...

"I won't have time to shop for groceries tomorrow, I'll be out in the yard all day raking leaves and picking up acorns so I can put the lawn to bed for the winter," I said. "I bought a Nut Wizard, remember," she replied? Skeptically, I rolled the new contraption out to the yard and within seconds, I'd scooped up a quart of acorns as effortlessly as if I were walking the dog! I filled a 5-gallon stainless steel bucket to the brim with acorns in less than an hour; true story. This simple machine didn't malfunction a single time and I never bent at the waist until I had to move that heavy bucket full of acorns to the bonfire pit! The only downside was that I had to shop for groceries!

I thought the nuts were winning, but finally I have a fast and easy way to remove acorns and hickory nuts from my lawn. Leaf blowers, shop vacs and an assortment of rakes have given way to this handy tool.

Helps my dad

My husband and I bought the Nut Wizard for my 82-year old father, who has the most irritating (and fruitful) crab apple tree and completely non-functional knees! Every year it drops apples all through the year, but the driveway is most littered in the fall (now). The Nut Wizard has helped him to pick up the apples before they are squished by any vehicle which enters the driveway, and makes yard pickup unbelievably easy.

Nut Pickup Wizard

I used to spend hours picking up the tiny apple-shaped pears that fell off my two trees in the fall. It was back-breaking work and I was ready to get rid of the trees. Then I ordered the nut wizard and everything became so much easier. I love using it. It picks up the pears so easily. In no time, all the pears that have fallen are inside the wire basket. The pears are easy to remove. Can't wait to start using the wizard this year. It's really fun!!

Disappointed

Perhaps I did not get the technique right, but sadly although I very much wanted this to work my experience was more acorns remained on the ground than were captured by the basket. I've very small sized nuts which fall from my tree, so perhaps it would work better with larger acorns.

Quality and Efficiency

There are many favorable things to be said about this wonderful tool. The simplicity and efficiency of its design, the quality of workmanship, even including a dab of grease in the axle to start off its life of good work. It really performs as advertised, picking it's targets with very little effort. The ingeneous design alows for quick and easy discharge of its catch. Bravo!! to designers and manufacturer. I purchased two on my first order and they are busy at work even today. P.S. A definite bargain for the price.

OUR PECAN PICKER UPPER
2011-09-23
PROBABLY THE MOST WONDERFUL TOOL WE HAVE COME ACROSS. BACK BREAKING WORK THOSE PECANS. IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE DISCOVERY OF THIS TOOL, OUR PECANS WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN HARVESTED. IT WAS A LIFE SAVER. EACH PERSON WE SHOW IT TOO IS JUST AMAZED. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS TOOL. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DISLIKE. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS TOOL. TOO BAD ALL THE PEOPLE WE SHOW IT TO DO NOT HAVE ANY NUT TREES. I HAVE SIX PECAN TREES IN MY YARD. THE NEIGHBORHOOD USED TO BE AN ENTIRE PECAN GROVE AT LEAST 100 YEARS AGO. WE HAD A BUMPER CROP IN 2010-2011 HERE IN REDDING CA. WE PROBABLY PICKED UP 500-600 LBS. THOUGHT WE COULD SELL THEM, BUT ONLY TRADED A FEW. EVERYONE ELSE WAS GIVING THEM AWAY EXCEPT FOR THE ONES WHO SOLD THEM SHELLED. WE HOWEVER DO NOT HAVE MUCH OF A CROP THIS YEAR AND HAVE A FREEZER FULL OF PECANS. I AM SURE PEOPLE WILL BEG FOR THEM THIS YEAR.
