Fun to have in the yard!

I bought it to scare birds roosting in a maple tree. These birds make a mess on my sidewalk every night. (An old saying goes, "It's a good thing cows can't fly.") The owl was fun to assemble, looks nice and attracts attention but does not scare other birds.

prowl owl howl

Great idea, but the quality of this product is terrible. Photos in instructions are not even legible. When carefully unfolding the wings, a rivet popped and now one wing hangs funny--had to try to fix it with duct tape. The hook for the body and the groove for the body edge are not aligned well, will never stay together without more duct tape.
Gardener's Edge responds: We're sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the quality of this product. Our customer service department will reach out and issue a replacement or refund for your purchase.

Works for a while, but then...

Crows stole most of my Asian pear harvest, so the next year I tried this owl, changing its position every few days. It worked great for a while, but one day we looked out and saw a couple of crows ATTACKING it! Crows are just too darn smart, they figure out after a while that it's not going to hurt them.

We use these to scare the robins, cardinals, and oriels out of our blueberries — very effective! :) Going to get another one for our strawberries and tomatoes.

Ineffective

After two days the birds ignored our owl. The first day it was new and windy so it made lots of noise and flapped regularly. Since then, windy days or calm, the birds have become quite comfortable with the owl and the only purpose it now fills is decoration. This was a poor choice for us. We were trying to discourage blackbirds and chipmunks. Not sure about the chipmunks yet or other birds, but the blackbirds are unimpressed.

What a rip-off

Don't whether this owl will work or not. Picture on website and carton shows the owl on a pole. No pole included. So I have to search for and buy a pole that will fit the owl and be able to be pounded into the ground. Extra time, hassle, and expense for a cheaply made product that is already overpriced. If I ever get it up, I doubt it will last this entire season.
Further comments on owl: Be careful what you order at Gardeners Edge. I would return this owl, but I would have to pay to return it plus a restocking fee. Other companies have better return policies.
Gardener's Edge responds: We have reviewed the product listing and agree that the description and depiction was not very clear. We apologize for any confusion or frustration this may have caused. We have updated our description to note that the pole is not included with the decoy, and will reach out to this customer about processing a return with full refund, including shipping. Our apologies again for not meeting your expectations, or our own.
